The short version

This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads nothing from a third party. The fonts, the scripts and the film all come from this domain. Nobody is watching you read.

The only personal information SOLU holds from this site is what you type into the enquiry form and send us on purpose: your answer, your email address, your name if you give one, the way in you chose, and your agreement that we may reply.

The long version below says the same thing with the detail Québec’s Law 25 requires.

What we collect, and when

When you send the enquiry form
Your answer to the question, your email address, your name if you give one, the way in you chose (the 20-minute call, the diagnostic or a written answer), the page you sent it from, and the fact that you ticked the consent box. Nothing else. No hidden field collects anything about you.
When your browser requests a page
Our host, Vercel Inc., records standard server-log data: IP address, date and time, the page requested, and your browser’s user-agent string. We do not use it to build a profile of you, and we do not join it to anything else.
In your own browser
One value, named v3pos, stored in sessionStorage. It records how far down the page you were so that resizing your browser window does not lose your place. It never leaves your device, it is not a cookie, and it is gone when you close the tab.

What we do not collect

Why we hold it

To answer you. An enquiry is used to write back, to prepare for a call or a diagnostic if you book one, and to keep a record of what was asked and what we said. That is the whole purpose.

We do not sell personal information, we do not rent it, and we do not send marketing you did not ask for. There is no mailing list.

Our legal basis is your consent, given by ticking the box, and our legitimate interest in replying to a business enquiry addressed to us. You can withdraw that consent at any time — see Your rights.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not become clients
24 months from your last message, then deleted.
Client records
For the life of the engagement, then for as long as Québec tax and professional-record rules require: six years after the end of the year they relate to.
Server logs
Kept by our host under their own retention schedule; see Vercel’s privacy policy.
Delivery records
Resend keeps a record of each message it delivers, under its own retention schedule; see Resend’s privacy policy.

Where it is held, and who can see it

SOLU is based in Québec. Our site is served by Vercel Inc., a United States company, from its edge network. Enquiries are delivered to us by email through Resend, Inc., a United States email-delivery service, into our own mailbox hosted by Apple (iCloud Mail). This means your information may be stored or processed outside Québec, including in the United States, where it can be subject to that country’s laws.

Before relying on any provider outside Québec we assess whether the information would receive adequate protection there, as Law 25 requires. The current list of providers, and where each one holds data, is the three named in this section for the website; for the systems we build, it is written into each client’s agreement.

Inside SOLU, access is limited to the people who need it to answer you or run your systems. SOLU is a small studio; in practice that is a very short list.

If you become a client

Everything above is about this website. The information inside the systems we build for you — your operational data, is governed by your written agreement with SOLU, not by this page. That agreement states where it is hosted, which third-party services are involved, and what leaves Québec. You get it before you sign, not after.

SOLU owns and licenses the infrastructure your systems run on. Your data is yours: if the licence ends, it leaves with you in readable form.

Your rights

Under Law 25 and Canadian privacy law you may ask us to:

Person responsible for the protection of personal information: Xavier Fraser, founder.

Write to xavier@buildwithsolu.com. We answer within 30 days, as the law requires.

If our answer does not satisfy you, you may complain to the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec at cai.gouv.qc.ca.

If something goes wrong

If personal information held by SOLU is lost or exposed and the incident presents a risk of serious injury, we will notify the Commission d’accès à l’information and every affected person promptly, and record the incident in the register Law 25 requires.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change materially affects how we handle information you already sent us, we will write to you about it rather than relying on you to re-read this page.
